Where Are You Going To Say “I Do”?

There are a lot of things that go into planning a wedding. In fact, when you first start the process it can often seem like there are so many that it’s actually a little overwhelming. You’ve got to think about guests, colour schemes, food, music, decorations, transport, seating arrangements, outfits, and so many other things that it’s often pretty mind boggling. However, there’s something that you have to have figured out before all of that. Something that you should probably start thinking about the moment you slip the engagement ring onto your finger. That thing is, of course, the venue. If you’re going to get married, then you obviously need somewhere to do it, and the right venue can set up the tone for the entire wedding. But how can you go about finding the right venue? Well, here are a few simple pieces of advice that you might want to follow when trying to find the perfect place to say “I do.”

What’s the theme of your wedding?

This is the first question that you should ask because it’s the one that gives you the focus that you need to actually start looking for a venue in the first place. After all, if you’re just looking for a wedding venue without knowing what kind of theme or style you’re after, you’re just going to end up wading through hundreds that are completely unsuitable for your needs. Think about whether or not you want a modern wedding, or perhaps a vintage one. Do you want something traditional? Or something unusual? A gorgeous, traditional venue like Château Bouffémont may not fit with a wedding themed around 1950’s Americana, and an outdoor wedding may not fit with something more traditional and elegant. These kinds of questions are important to ask as soon as possible in order to make sure that you don’t waste yours and your partner’s time.

What’s your budget?

The next question is the big one: what can you actually afford? There’s a danger when you’re planning to let your eyes become a little bit bigger than your stomach, so to speak. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the excitement of everything that you end up pinning all of your hopes on things that you simply can’t afford, leading you to feel disappointed when you have to settle for something else. It’s crucial that you know your budget from the start so that you can avoid letting yourself get totally carried away.

How many people are you inviting?
What’s the size of your wedding party? After all, a small intimate wedding with thirty people isn’t going to require nearly the same sized venue as one where you’re inviting hundreds. Think carefully about your wedding’s size. This might not seem like a major point, but there are few things worse than either attempting to cram hundreds of people into a tiny space or hiring out a huge venue that feels cavernous when it’s only populated with a few people. The venue impacts the tone of every aspect of your wedding, so it’s important that you consider all the details as thoroughly as possible.
