Turn eBay From A Hobby Into A Business

I use eBay for selling old stuff that I don’t need anymore or buying stuff second-hand like most people do. But for some people, eBay is a full time business that they make a good living from. It sounds like a pretty sweet deal, just stay at home selling stuff on eBay all day and earning a living from it. Well, it is, but don’t make the mistake of thinking it’s going to be that easy. Plenty of people have an eBay hobby where they sell old junk online and make a decent amount of cash on the side, but if you want to earn enough to pay all of your bills without doing anything else, that’s another level. It’s fairly easy to set up an eBay account and make a bit of money, but you’ll need to do these things if you want to make it a viable full time business.

Find A Niche

If you want to establish yourself on eBay, you need to find a niche. Carve out a place as the go-to person for a certain product and you’ll do well. It could be anything, a friend of mine makes a living selling small models of steam engines on eBay. You’re probably not going to go for that but it just goes to show that if you know enough about something, you can make a good living buying and selling it online. Think of any hobbies that you have already, that’s always a good place to start. Otherwise, you could choose a new area and just do a good amount of research. Either way, you need a specific niche if you’re going to make any good money.

Get Organized

When you’ve just got a few bits of old furniture and some clothes listed on eBay, organization isn’t too much of a problem, but when you’re selling enough stuff to make a proper living it’s easy to lose track. It’s also going to take up a load of space in the house so you should get a storage unit dedicated to your eBay stuff and store it all there. You’ll also need to catalog it all so you know where to find stuff when you’ve sold it. All you need to do is set up a quick spreadsheet and list all of the items and the prices, then cross them off when they’ve been sold. That way, you’ll know exactly what you’ve got and it’s also a good way of keeping track of how much money you’re making.

Car Boot Sales

Finding good stuff to sell is the most important thing and if you’re just getting stuff off eBay and selling it on there again, you won’t make much profit. The best place to go is a car boot sale, they’re an absolute goldmine. People are just trying to clear out their old junk at a car boot, they’re not that worried about making loads of money so you can get things cheap and sell them on for a good profit.

That’s everything you need to know about making a full time business out of your eBay hobby, so get out there and start selling.
