Recently, my Mum has been talking about the differences in her skin over the past few years. She’s approaching 50 and I think she’s more focused on looking after her skin now. We all have to get older, and our bodies will change, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t still look amazing.In fact, many women don’t really come into their own until they’re a little older. Beauty is all about loving your body and having confidence in yourself – if you can do that, then you’ll always like what you see in the mirror.
That being said, it never hurts to give nature a little help, especially in the skin department. So, here are some tips to ensure you’re as fresh-faced as ever after 40:
Cleanse, Exfoliate and Moisturize
First thing in the morning, you should cleanse and moisturize your face using products formulated for the more mature skin. If your skin is dull or oily, you may want to exfoliate, using one of the best exfoliating facial scrubs, too, but some people prefer to do this in the evening when it helps to remove all traces of the day’s makeup.
Repeat this routine again (minus the exfoliation if you’ve already done that) in the evening.
Apply an Antioxidant Serum
Next, apply a high-quality antioxidant serum with a high level of UV protection to help protect you from the sun’s rays. Ideally, it should also contain a significant amount of vitamin C, which will help to promote the production of collagen for plumper, more youthful skin. Perricone MD Vitamin C Ester Serum is pretty good, but there are more affordable options like Reviva cream, available too.
Even though your antioxidant serum will off your some protection against the sun, you should still apply a sunscreen that is at least SPF 20 each day because the sun is the worst thing for your skin, causing wrinkles and sunspots like nothing else.Of course, protecting yourself from skin cancer is an even more important reason not to skip this step.
If you’ve noticed the first signs of crow’s feet around the eyes, you may also want to apply an eye cream containing glycolic acid or retinol, to help plump up those fine lines and prevent the formation of new ones.
Treating yourself to a therapeutic facial massage will help to speed up the blood flow to the capillaries in your face, which of course, brings more important nutrients and oxygen to the area, helping you to have a youthful glow even without any products.
Eat a Healthy Diet
Eating a healthy diet which is rich in fruits and vegetables (particularly leafy greens), nuts and water, and avoiding excess sugar, will do pretty much more than anything else to give you a glowing, fresh-faced look because these foods are packed with antioxidants which help to fight against the free radicals that cause your skin to age, and sugar is one of the worst things for your skin, because it affects the production of skin-plumping collagen.
You might not be 21 anymore, but you can still wake up in the morning with a radiant glow – fresh skin is for everyone.
