Isn’t Winter such a magical time? There’s something so wonderful to me about the season, from warm blankets, hot chocolate, and snuggling down surrounded by candles watching endless films. Of course, one of the most exciting things about the winter is Christmas! It’s my favourite time of the year, and I love the excitement and wonder that bubbles up around the time. Highcross is perfect for your Christmas shopping, as it has over 100 stylish shops including Apple, Debenhams and John Lewis and have just opened some new concessions and stores like Typo. There are so many exciting things coming up too, like a permanent Crazy Golf unit and more. That’s why when I found out that Highcross in Leicester were launching the season with their very own ‘White Christmas’ I knew I had to get involved.
I met up with the lovely Abi, who was our host for the evening, as well as Anna from TalesOfAnnieBean at the Jägerhaus, a German themed bar with it’s very own BBQ is set up in St Peters Square at Highcross. The drink selection ranges from German mulled wine, Premium Lager and wheat beer from Munich to mulled cider, Belgium Strawberry beer as well as non-alcoholic drinks for kids and drivers. Hungry shoppers are able to quench their appetite on traditional German cuisine like Bratwurst and Krakauer. The stools and tables are housed under gorgeous festive wooden huts and it really did set the scene for the event.
Abi talked us through the event, and what other festive events are happening at Highcross over the Christmas period, and we got a chance to try the Bratwurst and the most delicious hot chocolate I have had for a long time. I got overly excited when I saw snowflakes, and thought it was the most appropriate time for it to snow. Except, it wasn’t really snowing- it was faux snow that Highcross had planned and it was glorious! It reminded me very much of ‘the’ snow scene in Edward Scissorhands. This was the start of the ‘White Christmas’ event.
Complete with dancing snowflakes, Russian princesses, giant swans and even a winter dragon – there was something for everyone to enjoy as they launched the festive season in style. But that’s not all – the streets of Leicester was also visited by some of Santa’s Little Helpers themselves. The North Pole Postal Service will made its way across the tundra, featuring Crumpet the elf and Blitsen, a fully animatronic reindeer who was on hand to greet little shoppers as they get into the festive spirit.
Regarding the Christmas period, Highcross quotes;
“With everything you need all in one place, Highcrosshas something for everyone this Christmas. Get ahead on your Christmas shopping with our late-night opening hours, find fantastic treats for all the family and add a touch of magic to your trip with a visit to Santa’s log cabin with the little ones.
Stop for a break and enjoy festive food at one of our many restaurants, cafes and places to grab a snack. Whether you like to squeeze in or stretch out your festive shopping trips, Highcross has Christmas in the bag.”
Highcross has many other festive activities in the pipeline, including a Santa’s grotto, and various offers and giveaways via their app, Highcross PLUS. Not only can you load special discounts and similar, but you can shop smart by taking photos and loading them into the app to receive matching results of items that are available in the shops at Highcross. How smart! Perfect then, for when your Mum sends you a picture of a shirt she likes with absolutely no context as to where she saw it, or where it’s from. Perhaps that’s just my Mum! But this app is an absolute livesaver in this respect.
Getting to Highcross is extremely easy, with it being located a short walk from Leicester train station. There are also two main carparks associated with the mall, as well as several in the surrounding vicinity of the City centre.
